Amazon Smart Package Lockers and Apartment Mailboxes Making Life Easier

Enquire.

Installing smart package lockers offer added convenience for apartment residents, helping your complex to stand out from the competition.

The way in which we shop has changed dramatically and the internet enables us to buy what we need with just a few clicks. Online shopping is convenient and a growing number of consumers are choosing to shop online rather than visit a physical store.

However, receiving goods that have been delivered online can sometimes prove inconvenient, especially for people who work long or inflexible hours. If nobody is available to take delivery of a parcel, the customer finds themselves having to spend time rearranging delivery or visiting delivery depots.

To provide a solution to this conundrum (for apartment dwellers at least), online retail giant Amazon has launched its ‘Hub’ project to provide smart package lockers in apartment buildings.

Hub at Amazon

The Hub programme involves placing a large metal locker unit in a communal area of an apartment building from which residents can collect their parcels 24 hours a day. Once a parcel has been delivered, customers receive a message containing a six-digit code which they can use to access their delivery at a time that is convenient to them.

Amazon has provided secure pick up lockers in public locations for a while now, but while these are mainly used for Amazon packages, the new Hub lockers are intended to accept all parcel deliveries to an apartment building.

Marketing tool

As the population becomes more tech savvy, people increasingly expect their homes to offer a greater level of technological sophistication, with a particular focus on cloud-based and smart building applications. And those developers who take these expectations on board and integrate smart features into their properties often find that they can charge higher purchase and rental prices.

With this in mind, installing smart pick up lockers can be useful marketing tool for property developers looking to attract buyers, particularly for those operating in the luxury apartment sector.

And Amazon’s project has certainly proved popular so far. Some of the biggest names in real estate have already signed up to Hub including J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Equity Residential and AvalonBay, and it is estimated that over half a million apartment residents in the USA have access to a Hub locker.

Added convenience and lower costs

There are also more practical benefits to installing pick up lockers in your complex. In many apartment complexes, parcels are taken by the doorman or concierge. However, this can add a lot to their workload, particularly during peak shopping seasons, and it often means that residents can only collect their parcels while the concierge is on duty.

A secure pick up locker offers a more convenient and more cost-effective solution, while still ensuring the security of any packages.
